These rooms generally accommodate children from 3, although they make the transition from a toddler room slightly earlier, to the term before their fifth birthday who are preparing to move to school.
By this age children have developed social skills and are able to make choices about the activity they would like to complete. Children are encouraged to make decisions and solve problems, encouraging them to decide which activities they would like to complete and take part in.
All activities are delivered through discussion and play with the valuable interaction of children with their peers and practitioners. We motivate children to learn using various stimuli, having visitors in the centre and going out on visits, having displays of outside material and the children’s own work, reading, discussing and making our own books, organising and offering theme/topic related activities and experiences.
During Free Play children have access to all the resources available in the area including, role play area, corner are, books, mark making area, creative area, sand/water play, small world equipment, ICT, music, balconies and the garden. Our aim is to fully integrate childcare and education throughout the centre. We hope to work with you in improving your child’s skills and knowledge by helping them achieve the outcomes set in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Activities are planned to deliver this curriculum and equipment is used in a way that is suitable for your child’s development at their age and according to their capability. The curriculum we follow is combined with a strong element of childcare to foster your child’s well-being whilst at the centre.
