The Playscheme only operates during holidays in which the university/union buildings are open and is situated within Bright Beginnings Childcare Centre upstairs in the Zone and The Discovery Pod. Children can attend the Playscheme from the age of 3 to 11. Places are offered on a first come first serve basis and provision is dependent upon interest. Once you register you will automatically be sent a booking form one month prior to the next half term.
There are 2 sessions per day, a morning session 8:00am to 1:00pm and an afternoon session 1:00pm to 5.50pm. Children must bring a healthy packed lunch for the day following our packed lunch policy. A light breakfast snack and late afternoon snack will be provided. Fresh fruit and drinking water will be provided throughout the day. The room is divided into areas of various types of play experiences. The adult to child ratio is 1:8. The ratio is 1:6 on outings.

Nutrition
We provide children with a range of snacks in the morning and afternoon, but children must bring their own packed lunch.
At Bright Beginnings, we are committed to promoting healthy eating throughout the Centre. This includes packed lunches for our Playscheme children. Please visit the NHS website for more information and for ideas for what to pack in your child’s packed lunch: https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes.
We would like to remind parents to avoid packing chocolate, sweets, biscuits and cake bars, as these items are high in sugar, and encourage families to pack fruit and vegetable snacks instead. Processed fruit products such as winders are also high in sugar.
We also do not allow sugary, fizzy drinks such as Coca Cola. The Centre provides cold water throughout the day via a drinking fountain and the children can help themselves at any time.
The Centre is also a nut free zone. This includes all varieties of nuts and nut spreads. This is to protect children that have severe nut allergies.
Registering
Playscheme places are offered on a first come first served basis, and we prioritise staff members and students from the University of Leeds. Booking forms are sent out at least a month in advance to families registered on ParentMail, our parent communication portal. To register your interest in our Playscheme, please contact brightbeginnings@leeds.ac.uk.
