Helping Children and Families Settle, Thrive, and Belong

Prior to your child actually starting Bright Beginnings

We will arrange several visits leading up to the actual start date. Initially, we ask you to accompany your child for an induction visit, followed by short visits where we ask you to leave them for a few hours. We will then extend the visits so your child eventually spends a few days with us before the start date.

This is generally the ideal way to introduce children to Bright Beginnings, but we can be flexible and recognise that each child is an individual and will settle in their own way. Some children need lots of visits whilst others can visit for an afternoon and be quite happy to stay and start attending the Centre straight away.

You will be asked to complete a child information form as you conduct your visit. This gives us written information to help us get to know your child. The document generally looks at your child’s home routines and enables practitioners the opportunity to look at how they will best integrate your child into Bright Beginnings.

Your Child’s Key Person

At Bright Beginnings, every child is allocated a Key Person who will be a special, familiar adult in their nursery journey. The Key Person plays a vital role in helping children feel safe, secure and valued, building a warm and trusting relationship that supports their emotional wellbeing, confidence and enjoyment of learning. Research shows that children thrive when they have secure attachments with caring adults, and our Key Persons provide that consistent support throughout your child’s time with us.

Your child’s Key Person will take the time to get to know them as an individual, learning about their interests, strengths, personality and unique needs. They will observe and monitor your child’s development, plan experiences that support their learning, and celebrate their achievements every step of the way. Daily routines such as mealtimes, personal care and small group activities provide valuable opportunities for your child to build a strong relationship with their Key Person and develop a sense of belonging within the nursery community.

We believe that parents are a child’s first and most important educators. Your child’s Key Person will work closely with you, sharing information about your child’s day, celebrating progress and discussing any support they may need. Through regular communication and review meetings, we aim to build a positive partnership with families to ensure that care and learning are tailored to each child’s individual needs, both at nursery and at home.

To ensure continuity of care, every child is also assigned a Significant Other. This team member will step into the Key Person role whenever the Key Person is absent, helping your child continue to feel secure and supported by familiar adults.

Together, our Key Person approach helps every child develop confidence, independence, positive relationships and a strong foundation for future learning.
