All children deserve the care and support they need to have the best start in life.
Celebratory Approach
Practitioners working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) acknowledge and value each child, emphasising their strengths and interests and use these to plan provision that effectively removes barriers to learning. Offering all children opportunities to explore, discover and take risks helps them to become competent, capable and resilient learners.
At Bright Beginnings we recognise that every child is unique and different tools or strategies might be needed to make sure children thrive. It is vital that all children are encouraged to notice the many aspects of diversity and difference across society. A positive approach to inclusion in the early years will support all children’s development and learning across their lifetime and will have an impact on society as a whole.
Working in Partnership
…parents know their children best and it is important that all practitioners listen and understand when parents express concerns about their child’s development.
Parents have a wealth of knowledge about their children not only in their home environment but in a variety of other situations. At Bright Beginnings, we place parents’ and children’s views, wishes, and feelings at the heart of our planning to create a provision that meets the children’s needs. We actively encourage parents to take part in decision-making.
Graduated Approach
SEND Support builds on high-quality teaching which has been tailored for individual children. It is designed with 4 stages of action: assess, plan, do and review, which enables us to make reasonable adjustments to provision to meet children’s needs.
During the cycle, our Centre’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) collaborates with practitioners and parents to ensure that assessments, interventions, and progress monitoring are aligned with a holistic understanding of the child. The outcomes are shaped by the parents’ aspirations for the child. The SENCO is also available to offer additional support to practitioners and parents by liaising with external professionals like Speech and Language Therapists, Inclusion Specialists, and others.
