Learning about Bees with Michael Howroyd, the University’s Biodiversity Programme Lead
Today we had a very special visit from Michael Howroyd, University’s Biodiversity Programme Lead, who shared his vast knowledge about bees with our preschool children.
We learnt about the different types of bees and what their role is within the hive. We talked about why they collect pollen and nectar and what bees use it for. We also learnt that they communicate through dancing and moving. The children had a chance to try a beekeeper’s hat on and Michael brought a hive for us to explore as well! The children were able to see what it looks like inside. We looked at a swarm of bees on the screen and Michael said there was a queen bee amongst it somewhere, but it is difficult to spot it. Our children were very quick to spot it. Michael was very impressed!
The children asked some interesting questions and were so well behaved, we were very proud of them!
