Widening Children’s Cultural Capital
Our preschool children have thoroughly enjoyed today’s visit to the church at Leeds University Campus where we were kindly invited by Reverend Tim, who read the ‘Story of First Christmas‘ to the children. We took an active part in the story as shepherds, angels, and kings, which was great fun! Afterwards, we sang some Christmas Carols together, and then Reverend Tim prepared some snacks for us while we admired the interesting architecture and features, such as the huge windows, transparent floor, and impressive ceilings. Experiences like this enrich children’s cultural capital by giving them a deeper understanding of community heritage, diversity, and shared values. These moments spark curiosity and help children make meaningful connections with the world around them.
